Boats, engines, sales and marketing?
The photo above shows the coast of Sardinia, Italy - two boats dead in the water as another boat speeds toward them bringing help. What happened that stopped the two boats from moving forward? Maybe the engines were not powerful enough or they stopped working because the engines had been neglected. However, when a boat’s engine performs properly, it allows the captain to chart a strategy for where to go, how to get there and how long the journey will take. At WOW Communications & Training we like to be the speeding boat coming with help. We feel a business’s engine is its sales and marketing. Effective use of sales and marketing techniques will always keep a business moving forward and thus prevent random floating - ultimately ending in a dead stop.
Big or small?
This photo is of Villefranche-sur-Mer on the French Riviera and demonstrates the various types and sizes of vessels on the Mediterranean. Can you imagine how big the engines are in cruise ships just to keep them moving in the right direction? They’re definitely not the same size as the engines needed for small yachts or motorboats. It’s a similar situation in business where there are different sizes and types of operations. If the engine for a business is sales and marketing, how much engine power do you think your big or small business needs?
A little or a lot?
Many business owners or managers are not experts in sales and marketing, and therefore find these necessary business activities frustrating. They struggle along often wasting time and money trying to figure out what works and what doesn’t work.
